Concordia Lutheran College Toowoomba: from Kindy to Year 12 across four separate campusesConcordia Lutheran College Toowoomba: from Kindy to Year 12 across four separate campuses

History is made as new Sporting Houses are launched!

Friday 12 August will go down as an historic day at Concordia Lutheran College as this marks the official launch of three new houses from P-12.

Students from all three Toowoomba campuses participated in the march-past at Redlands Campus oval and were suitably festooned in their new house colours of yellow, white and red. Parents, visitors and many staff also joined in the celebrations.

Head of College, Michael Kaiser acknowledged the presence of members of three notable Concordia families after whom the houses were named. He said “It is their brothers, husbands, fathers and grandfathers whose achievements we recognise today in the house names Altus, Kessler and Stedman.”

It was a special thrill to have these family members share this occasion with us. Mr Kaiser drew attention to the 1946 sports’ results which included Girls’ Skipping and the fact that one of our guests actually competed in that 1946 event! Cricket ball throwing and the standing broad jump also belong to this by-gone yet nonetheless nostalgic era.

Captains from each house then presented a short history of the contributions of each founder. Bouquets in suitable house colours were given to family representatives under the watchful eyes of the very popular new house mascots, the Altus Kangaroo, Kessler Croc and Stedman Eagle.

Mrs Shona Promnitz, College Council Chair then opened the 65th Redlands Campus Athletics Carnival. The new College song “With One Heart” was sung, balloons were released and prayers were said. Head of Senior College Mr Michael Paech then orchestrated an all-college activity, the formation of giant letters, A, K and S on the oval.

Invited guests were treated to a morning tea which was served by the Redlands Campus College Captains. From their vantage point of the marquee, our guests were able to watch the track and field events and cheer on these fledgling houses.

Concordia spectators, supporters and competitors enjoyed this historic day of athletic achievement, ably catered for by the Redlands Campus P&F gourmet canteen. And now to finish with some gems from 1946.

“September 9th: Teams for the two houses Brown and Gold chosen. Enthusiasm apparent immediately.
September 11th: Preparation of tracks and pit.
September 15th: Brown ribbons flashing everywhere - no Gold obtainable.”
