The Week Ahead - Term 2, Week 2

Monday 27 April to Friday 1 May 2020

From the Head of College

Welcome to Term 2

Welcome to the first edition of The Week Ahead for this school term. I continue to be in total awe of the creative work that our staff has done in such a short period of time. Those in the media tend to speak just of teachers at the 'front line' but, at our school, everyone has played a major role in supporting the learning of our students. The establishment of Learning Online Virtual Education (LOVE) at Concordia has only been possible because of the dedication and input from all staff. Thank you to all of our staff! A job well done.

Thank you to our parents and extended families. The feedback, words of encouragement, morning teas that have mysteriously appeared and general goodwill has been really appreciated. In these times, all small acts of kindness help to lift the spirits and energise our exceptional staff. Thank you!

Ways to enjoy LOVE CLC

We hope everyone has had a chance to explore the LOVE CLC platform that has been developed as an additional learning resource for students.

The content on this platform isn't classwork, rather fun and engaging activities that are designed to expand our minds, get us moving and assist with maintaining our wellbeing at this time. The platform will continue to be updated on a daily basis - we will also be sharing what's new each week through Facebook and The Week Ahead.

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to LOVE CLC - it has been great receiving photos of students' home work spaces and pets and we hope you enjoy seeing the gallery of images that have been received. Please continue to send your photos to marketing@concordia.qld.edu.au.

Here are some items you can do on LOVE CLC over the weekend:

A reminder that to visit LOVE CLC, visit the link that used to be called MY CLC on our website. The password is: Heart2020

If you have any questions, comments, recommendations or suggestions, please send them through to us.

Digital Music Performance Program

The current educative environment has changed substantially these past months and the suspension of our face to face music performance activities has been less than ideal, however, necessary to keep our students safe. As with all of the staff at Concordia, we have been busily working to make the transition into alternate learning programs as smooth as possible including our music performance program. Good news - our ensembles will be continuing this term in the form of online rehearsals, discussions, seminars, guest artist talks, online recitals and a collection of virtual ensemble performances.

Light up the Dawn on Anzac Day

On Saturday, Australia will be commemorating Anzac Day in a very unique way. No local dawn services, no local wreath laying ceremonies and no local parades. The Concordia Lutheran College community is encouraged to participate in Light up the Dawn on Saturday at 6am.

For more information, visit Light up the Dawn.

Students, we would love you to dress in your formal College uniform and send a photo to marketing@concordia.qld.edu.au to share with the College community in recognition of this important day.

Our Senior College Coordinator, Mrs Carissa Jaworska, has created a video of how to make Anzac Day lanterns using empty plastic milk bottles. You can watch the video below.

I often spend time, as we all do, scrolling through my Facebook feed and, at the moment, there seems to be an endless amount of memes and quotes. One that popped up in my feed just recently was a quote by Helen Keller – “Alone we can do little; together we can do so much”. How appropriate for our Warwick Street Campus community at the moment! As we embarked on our online learning journey this week, we have seen all members of our community come together.

Term 2 Welcome

Happy Friday everybody and welcome back for Term 2! What a week of online learning! Thank you to everybody who is working together to help make this online learning experience one of quality. I must admit that after Education Queensland’s start to the week, I was certainly holding my breath as we all went online, hoping that our system would not also suffer the same issues. Not only was I relieved as I watched our College come online, I was also so proud seeing the efforts of all members of our community come to life.

We now have students online from Hope Vale, Far North Queensland, out west to St George. Check out Dayna’s classroom below, she snapped this shot just after leaving a Senior Study class with Ms Bowen!

Thank you to everyone who is providing feedback. It is greatly appreciated, and we are using this to refine the way that we teach in this space. Thank you also for the lovely emails that have been coming in. We truly feel appreciated.

I am looking forward to standing in my driveway tomorrow morning as we pause to commemorate Anzac Day 2020 in a very unique way.

God Bless,

Mr Jason Smith
Director of Campus
