Head of College Update

Coronavirus Update for Schools

As we enter different phases of this global pandemic, there are some important facts that I bring to the attention of all parents and guardians:

  • We are taking advice from the various Government agencies, Independent Schools Queensland and Lutheran Education Queensland, and we will only act in consultation with the relevant Government agencies.
  • Parents and guardians will be informed of any developments via SMS, Email, Concordia App and ‘The Week Ahead’. No other avenues will be used except in the case of an emergency – information to parents will be disseminated from the office of the Head of College only.
  • Seasonal influenza messages and general advice will be conveyed to parents and staff through ‘The Week Ahead’ as per our normal procedure.
  • Staff have been issued with hand sanitiser to be used by students within all classrooms at the Junior College. At the Stephen Street Campus, hand sanitising units are located in a variety of locations around the Campus. We have conducted an audit and further units are being supplied to staff at that Campus as a way of adding to our existing sanitiser units.
  • Our general cleaning program is audited to ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained across the College.
  • If parents and guardians or close family members are travelling overseas in the coming holidays, then you should consult smart traveller for current advice.
  • We do not have cases of Coronavirus in the College.

New Sports Uniforms 2020

This term, our Junior College AFL and Touch teams have been decked out in the new Concordia Lutheran College uniforms for these sports. The students are loving the new strip and have been sporting the colours proudly at recent fixtures for Friday sport at various venues, with some great comments from the wider community.

Well done to all involved with this initiative and support of our Junior College sporting programs.

Representative Swimming News

Congratulations to all our Junior College swimmers representing the Toowoomba Central Zone District, for their efforts in the pool at the Darling Downs Swimming Trials held at Gatton recently. It was great to see our swimmers give their best in all events and representing their school and themselves so proudly. Thank you to the parents for their support on this day.

Students who competed were Ava Hopper, Arabella Knopke, Meg Osborne, Sofie Osborne, James Rice, Casey Rickert, Holly Vaughan and Michael Vicary-Rojas. A special mention and congratulations to Meg Osborne on gaining Darling Downs selection to compete at the State Championship next month. Meg also broke two records in Butterfly at the Darling Downs meet, while a number of students can count themselves unlucky by missing out by the narrowest of margins in qualifying. We wish Meg the best at this next level.

Next Monday, selected Concordia students (9 years old to Opens), will be participating in the annual Queensland Combined Independent Schools (QCIS) Swimming Carnival at the Milne Bay Pool. Good luck to all involved!

Hume Street Campus

From the Director

One of my highlights each week is to scroll through all of the classroom Seesaw accounts to see the amazing work that is done by the students and their teachers. The learning that is occurring is remarkable and we love that we have the platform to be able to share this with you.

As parents, it is wonderful for you to be able to view these posts on a regular basis and to see the progress that your children are making in their learning. Your comments on these posts have a huge impact on the students as they are always proud to show off their achievements. These posts also enable you to talk to your children about their day at school and to be active participants in their learning journey.

Teachers and students love you counting on Seesaw posts, but please be mindful that if you would like to communicate with the teachers about things happening at school, email is the most appropriate form of communication. I look forward to continuing to follow our Seesaw posts. Happy Learning!

From the Director of Campus

As we are nearing the end of Term 1, we are already beginning to celebrate the achievements of our WSC students both inside and outside the classroom. Congratulations must go to all of our participants in the Inter-House Cross Country this week. It was a great morning of team spirit from not only the students but also our parents. We saw some of our parents really taking a hit for their team, even going as far as painting their faces!

This coming week, you will all have the opportunity to see what’s happening at Concordia beyond your child’s classroom. Our Learning Showcase on Thursday will be a time for you to experience all that our college has to offer across both our Junior, Middle and Senior College. We look forward to seeing you there as you wander around our Stephen Street Campus to see our learning focuses from Prep to Year 12 and also enjoy the complimentary sausage sizzle with your family.

OPEN DAY SAUSAGE SIZZLE

We are cooking up yet another storm on the barbecue on Saturday 21 March at Open Day. This is even more relaxed than Bunnings (so more time to have more fun) and we get to meet and chat with prospective new families and students to share our wonderful experience as Concordian families.

Due to the timing of Open Day, we don’t need as many volunteers to help us out, but we do appreciate any spare time given from our community. We would appreciate helpers from 8.30am to set-up and with Open Day running from 9.30am to 12.30pm, we should be completely wrapped up by 1.30pm. If you are able to assist, please click here to access the Volunteers' Register where you can select your preferred time.

We will be operating from the Quad and students from the Stephen Street Campus are more than welcome to help out on the day.

All volunteers must wear FULLY ENCLOSED FOOTWEAR, due to Workplace Health and Safety.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Futsal News

The Concordia 7/8 Boys Futsal team have made it to the Grand Final of the Downlands College Futsal Competition after a stellar season where they went undefeated throughout their five games, scoring 45 goals in the process.

The game will be held at the Downlands Gym with kick off at 5.50pm on Tuesday 17 March. It would be wonderful to have as many supporters there as possible to cheer on the boys as they go for the title against Downlands.

Crikey! What a Day we had at Australia Zoo

Boarding students and staff set off at 7.30am on Sunday morning to visit Australia Zoo. Everyone had a great day, riding the train, walking in and out of areas which were well populated with many wonderful animals, birds and reptiles. Thank you to the Kitchen staff for a great lunch.

The Crocs were a great drawcard and the beautiful tropical parrots flying in and around the spectators was a real buzz. Students enjoyed the freedom and relaxed atmosphere. A big shout out to Mr Barrie and Miss Libby for supporting us on this excursion.
