Dear Parents and Caregivers

Week 5 has come and gone and with it the halfway mark for Term 2 already! The wet weather at the start of the week has kept us on our toes ducking and diving to stay dry only to be followed by some beautiful Autumn days. We Will Rock You the Musical is finally here! The first night of the Musical has gone off with a bang and I can only encourage you to get a ticket for either tonight or one of Saturday’s performances if you haven’t already done so. The talent on display is outstanding and a reflection of the months of hard work which has gone into the 2023 Musical. Congratulations, well done and thank you to everyone who has made this College event such a memorable occasion.

JC Junior & Senior Choir Results

A massive congratulations to the Junior Choir students (Year 3-6) who performed in the Toowoomba Eisteddfod on Sunday 7 May. We had over 100 students represent the College, conducted by Hayley Sugars and accompanied by Elizabeth Gordon.

Both performances received awards in their individual sections:

The Junior Choir (Year 3-4) - Highly Commended
The Senior Choir (Year 5-6) - 2nd Place

Year 6 Drum Group Debut Performance

The Year 6 Drum Group had their debut performance on Friday May 12 where they performed five pieces for the entire combined Junior Campuses in the Senior School Chapel. This group is a cross-campus co-curricular ensemble that formed this year and rehearses afterschool every week. They drummed up a storm and should be immensely proud of their efforts. What a show!

JC Reading Challenge 2023

JC Book Fair

JC Library News

This term we are having a Junior College House Reading Challenge. You may have noticed that your child has brought home a template for a book review or a Lego character template. Please encourage them to fill in this sheet to the best of their ability. There is no limit to how many each student is allowed to submit. I am giving away 6 x $10 gift vouchers at each campus to spend at the Scholastic Book Fair to the best efforts I receive next week.

The countdown is on to the Scholastic Book Fair and National Simultaneous Storytime. Next week, the products will all be arriving and the students will have an opportunity to browse the selection and fill in a wish list to take home and discuss with their families. An invitation will also be sent home with all students as a reminder of the days and times the fair is open at each campus. The support for this event last year was amazing so I am looking forward to seeing how successful our annual Book Fair is this year.

JC Uniforms

Please ensure that you name any pieces of uniform so that it can be returned to the student.

As the weather begins to cool and the leaves change colour, schools across the country begin the process of transitioning from their summer to winter uniform. The changeover to winter uniform can bring a sense of excitement and anticipation as students get to experiment with new outfits and styles. It can also be a challenge for families who may need to invest in new pieces of clothing to ensure their child is properly dressed for the colder weather. Despite these challenges, the changeover to winter uniform is an important annual tradition that helps students prepare for the upcoming season and creates a sense of community and unity within the school.

This time presents a great opportunity to review our uniform guide. A few points to note that have been conservations on recent assembly or in classrooms are…

· Monday is our formal uniform day regardless of weather unless notified by College.
· Sport shoes are navy or white and worn only with sport uniform.
· Layering under uniform is fine as long as we can’t see it.
· Woollen jumper is worn with formal uniform or with sport under the jacket.
· Jacket can be worn with either uniform.
· Hoodie and track suit top is only worn with sport uniform.
· There is a formal pant option for the girls sold at the uniform shop.
· Girls may wear socks or navy tights with formal skirt.
· Orders for uniforms, may be phoned through to the uniform shop and items will be delivered to the Junior Campus.
· Indigenous shirts may be worn with sport uniform on a Wednesday.
