The Week Ahead - Term 4, End of Term 2023

Monday 27 November - Friday 1 December

From the Head of College

From the Acting Head of College

The end of the year is upon us and as I write my article for the last edition of The Week Ahead for the year, I find myself reflecting on all that was 2023. The end of year services and events over the last couple of weeks have reaffirmed for us all that Concordia is definitely the place to be. This year has seen us continue to build our sporting program, showcase the Arts in Drama, Music and Visual Arts and consistently show the high-quality teaching and learning that is offered to all our students from Kindy through to Year 12.

Christmas!

Well, we have made it. Another school year has come to an end with a round of celebrations and special events, as always.

What memories have you created in 2023? What have you learned? Where have you grown? What challenges did you overcome? What goals have you achieved?

Community News

From the Director of Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

It is hard to believe that we have reached the final week of the 2023 school year. This year has seen our students demonstrate exceptional dedication to their schooling, with many being acknowledged at the annual Concordia Lutheran College 6-11 Presentation Evening. What a pleasure it was to see so many of our students crossing the Empire Theatre stage to be recognised for their achievements this past year.

A Year of Milestones and Memorable Moments

As we prepare to close the book on another school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we've embarked on together. Though this is my first year at Concordia Lutheran College, the warmth of this community has made it feel like home very quickly.

2023 has been a remarkable year marked by a string of successes and a bouquet of cultural experiences.

Junior College

From the Junior College Director of Campuses

As the school year draws to a close, it is with great joy and pride that we reflect on the incredible journey of growth, discovery, and fun we've shared at Concordia over the year. This year's theme, "Embrace the Possibilities," has infused every classroom, playground, and hallway with a spirit of curiosity, resilience, and enthusiasm. Let's take a moment to celebrate the wonderful achievements and boundless potential that our students have discovered by wholeheartedly embracing the possibilities around them.

Junior College Inter-House Swimming Carnival 2023

On Thursday 16 November, the Junior College hosted its annual Inter-House Swimming Carnival at the Concordia Aquatic Centre. It turned out to be a fantastic day with some amazing results and great participation from our swimmers. From the 1st house war cries at 8.30 am the students never stopped. From their individual races through to house spirit, all students were encouraging each other, enjoying the great meal deal, and most importantly having fun and enjoying the mateship that comes with sporting endeavours such as this day. It was also very nice to have our spectators along in great numbers, supporting our students in their races across the duration of the carnival.

Junior College Staffing Update

This week we have been able to celebrate the retirement of two of our long-standing staff members Mrs Jodi Lundie-Jenkins and Mr David Heuschele.

Mrs Jodi Lundie-Jenkins has worked with Concordia Lutheran College for 22 years. She first began teaching with us at what was then our Martin Luther Primary School. During Jodi’s time with us, she has worked across both Junior Campuses, taught in multiple year levels and has been a parent of her own 3 children going through the College P-12 as well. Jodi is looking forward to retirement. She says, “I love teaching and watching students learn and being part of the school community, and I will miss everyone, but know it’s all in very capable hands. It’s time for new adventures (and maybe a visit back for a supply day here and there!).” We will have time towards the end of Term 4 to celebrate our time with Jodi and farewell her fabulous work with us, (and yes!! I’m sure we will see her back for plenty of supply days!)

Mr David Heuschele, has been a Learning Assistant with Concordia for 21 years. David has predominantly worked at Concordia Primary School and then Warwick Street Campus but over the past 3 years has been part of the Art Program accompanying John Trappett to do art on both campuses. David too has been a parent of the College with his own two children going P-12 through and is about to enjoy watching his grandson’s journey begin. We will have time towards the end of Term 4 to celebrate all that David has contributed to our college and farewell him with our community.

It is with sadness that we announce that our Junior College Library Assistant, Mrs Tania Garrahy has finished her work with us. Tania has decided to return to her high school library at St Josephs. We loved having Tania with us and wish her well in her future endeavours.

Staffing Update

It is with mixed feelings that we share the news that Carolyn will be moving to Stephen Street Campus from 2024. Carolyn has worked with Hume Street Campus for the past 8 years and as we all know, has done a mammoth job being involved in all areas of our campus. We thank her from the bottom of our hearts but are also very excited that she is able to stretch her horizons at SSC.

WSC Drama Speech & Drama Lessons 2024

Hi, my name is Andreas Elms and I love Drama!

I have been teaching drama and working with young people in the creative arts for many years and I can't wait to start working with the Concordia students through drama games, improvising, vocal activities, poems, plays, skits and building confidence along the way.

From the Director of Campus

At our chapel last week, Mrs Heuschele spoke on the theme of anticipation. She unpacked the human desire to look forward and wait eagerly for certain events or celebrations. I have no doubt today has been a day much anticipated by our students, as they get a well-deserved break from their studies. Our staff too look forward to the refreshment of the summer holidays, before bringing a renewed sense of energy to the new year.

Hello to all of our families!

Excitement is in the air – our dorms are starting to empty out and students departing for home.

Exams and assessments are all over, and as a student said to me the other day “I am over school for this year”. We agree! It has been a busy, yet enjoyable year with lots of laughter, some tears but most of all lots of great times that will be forever embedded in each of us.

Welcome from the Leadership Team
