The Week Ahead - Term 3, Week 7

Monday August 21 - Friday August 25

From the Head of College

Dear Parents and Caregivers

As we head into the second half of Term 3, Concordia remains a hive of activity. Excursions, incursions, numerous sporting fixtures, camps and exams remain the order of the day. Please remember to check the College Calendar, College App, emails and the weekly newsletter to stay on top of organising your weekly schedule. Next week will see the College focus on the importance of reading, from a young age, as we celebrate Book Week across the College. I sometimes get asked about a gift idea for a child and I will without hesitation say that buying a book for a child is one of the best gifts for them. Thank you to Mrs. Heidi Edwards, on the Senior College Campus, and all the staff at the Junior College for the planning and detailed work done behind the scenes to make the various activities, competitions and events associated with Book Week possible.

Master Plan - Frequently asked Questions

Will all the teachers be relocating? Or will you have to make some teachers redundant?

The teachers will be relocating with their students.

What are the benefits for teachers?

The move to one campus will allow for streamlined processes and greater collaboration between teachers. We believe our teachers will feel better supported and resourced by being together on one campus.

CLC Ensembles Concert - News

Last week, the College community gathered to celebrate the culmination of our CLC ensembles 2023 musical journey.

The concert featured our Junior Campus musicians alongside our more established ensembles from Stephen Street. Through countless hours of practice and rehearsals, skills have been honed, challenges embraced and new heights of musical excellence reached. This concert displayed the discipline required to master an instrument and the teamwork needed to perform as an ensemble.

As a small momentum, the College presented each member with a medallion to thank them for sharing their talents and for ensuring the music performance culture at the College remains of the highest standards.

We would like to publicly acknowledge the hours of service from our Year 12 students, Mia Hallaren, Alex Theodosis and Campbell Venz who have collectively, have been involved in ensembles for 24 years! Furthermore, thank you to the tutors, mentors, parents and supporters of the Music Performance program.

JAZZ on the Range News

On Saturday afternoon the College Big Band performed at the Jazz on the Range event hosted by TAS. This event is a fabulous, relaxed afternoon of music, featuring the Cool Nights Big Band plus several bands from local schools in a non-competitive environment. It was a very entertaining afternoon complete with a BBQ and picnic rugs and we appreciate the students representing the College to further hone their craft on a weekend.

Free Flu Vaccines

Offered to all staff, parents, carers and students. No Medicare card required.

During spring we see a rise in influenza cases. Never fear, it is not too late to get your first flu vax!

Did you have your flu vaccine in April/May? If so, now is the perfect time for you to have a free top-up.

The influenza vaccine is available free for ALL Queenslanders above 6 months of age until 31 August.

To improve uptake of the flu vaccine among Toowoomba residents, the Darling Downs Public Health Unit will be having a pop-up flu vaccine clinic at Kobi Place, Baillie Henderson Hospital on 19 August 2023 between 8 am and 2 pm.

Ever wondered why your child might need a flu shot...if so, click the link below.

CCTV Cameras installed in Health Centre

As the College continues to monitor and prioritise student wellbeing and safety, we are pleased to let you know that CCTV cameras have now been installed in our Health Centre to ensure that our excellent duty of care in this part of the College is maintained. The necessary signage informing all visitors to the Health Centre of this process has also been included. We would like to acknowledge and thank Nurse Libby Chapman for the outstanding care and support which she brings to this area of College life.

Janome Sewing Machines

As we are constantly striving to promote sustainability and reduce waste, we have an exciting opportunity for all sewing enthusiasts out there!

We currently have three mechanical Janome sewing machines that are in need of refurbishment. These machines, though broken, have great potential to be brought back to life with a little love and attention.

If you are someone who enjoys tinkering with machines or have a passion for refurbishing sewing equipment, this offer is perfect for you. These Janome models, known for their durability and precision, could become valuable additions to your sewing repertoire once repaired.

By taking these broken sewing machines and giving them a second chance, you not only save them from ending up in landfills but also contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.

If you are interested in receiving these mechanical Janome models for refurbishment, please contact Heidi Edwards at the Stephen Street Library.”

CLC Book Week

This year's theme is ‘Read, grow, inspire,’ which raises some wonderful ideas and imagery:

Who inspires you to read?

Who inspires you to grow?

What have you read that inspires you?

What have you read that makes you grow?

We look forward to seeing what creative costumes our students (and staff!) come up with for book week. It is always an exciting and fun time of the year.

Just remember that book week is about connecting students with books and inspiring enthusiasm and passion for reading. Costumes definitely don’t have to be expensive or complicated! They can be made out of things you find around the house, or from what is already in their wardrobe.

Happy reading!
