The Week Ahead - Term 4, Week 3
Monday 20 October - Friday 24 October 2025
From the Head of College
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome back to Term 4! I trust your family enjoyed a restful and safe break. Sylvia and I took some away to travel to North Queensland where we enjoyed quality time together. It has been wonderful to see our students quickly settling back to school routines and very affirming to see our students reconnect with their friends and teachers.
The next six weeks promise to be both busy and rewarding as we celebrate the achievements of the year and prepare for new beginnings awaiting us in 2026. This term holds many significant milestones with our Year 6 and 12 graduations, the leadership preparation programs for our Year 5 and Year 11 students, as well as the return of our Year 9 cohort from their Googa outdoor experience. I am looking forward to visiting the students next week which will include an overnight stay at Googa.
A major community event this term is our Oktoberfest on Saturday 25 October—a wonderful celebration of Concordia’s German heritage and community spirit as this event gets bigger and better. We also look forward to welcoming grandparents to Grandparents’ Day at Warwick Street in Week 4 and showcasing the creative talents of our students at the College Art Show in Week 5.
As our Year 12 students begin their exam block, we wish them every success and God’s blessing as they complete their final stage of schooling. Please hold them in your prayers over the coming weeks.
Over the past few years, I have found myself, as a grandparent, in the privileged position of offering advice to my adult children around strategies for redirecting their own children’s behaviour – our beautiful grandchildren! I must admit, it is much clearer when viewed through the lens of grandparent and life experience. Research from Virginia Commonwealth University highlights valuable insights in this area, many of which align closely with our own approaches to parenting and teaching at Concordia.
At home and at school, a guiding principle worth remembering is to Connect before you Correct. Children respond best when we remain clear and calm in our instructions, use descriptive praise to build confidence and allow natural consequences to develop responsibility (e.g. forgetting your lunch means going hungry). Consider “time-in” moments to work through choices together, use when/then strategies and countdowns to ease transitions and importantly, model what you want to see. After moments of conflict, take time to repair and reflect—these moments are where real learning and growth occur.
As I begin to reflect on the 2025 school year, I want to thank you for your ongoing partnership. One of Concordia’s strengths lies in the collaboration between home and school which is built on a strong open-door policy, transparent communication and shared values. I look forward to seeing and connecting with you at the many events and celebrations throughout this final term of 2025.
Every blessing for a wonderful and fulfilling Term 4.
Yours in Christ

Christmas is coming…
Welcome to Term 4, a busy and celebratory term at Concordia College! And yes, it’s this time of the year again. The weather is heating up. Cricket has started. In the shops the Christmas things and foods, like mince pies and lebkuchen have appeared. Christmas is coming!!! I returned from visiting my parents in Germany with a suitcase full of Christmas foods you can’t get here – and I left a heap of Christmas presents over there – sorry Australia Post, you are missing out this year.
What do you think about when you think of Christmas? Stress, preparations, food, presents, parties, beach? I guess Christmas is a time of giving, of thinking of others and it can be fun to decide on a gift for family and friends.
But let’s not forget the reason for this season, which really starts on November 30 with the first of Advent, the season leading into Christmas. And that is of course the birth of Jesus at Bethlehem, God giving his son to the world - the greatest gift ever. It’s a gift for all people and it has inspired people to give gifts to each other, including sharing with those who might otherwise not experience the joy of receiving a gift.
Australian Lutheran World Service connects with people around the world who would potentially be in that category and through their Gifts of Grace catalogue enables us to share in a simple ways the joy of giving gifts to those who need it most.
They put out a catalogue of Gifts of Grace https://www.alws.org.au/what-you-can-do/gifts-of-grace/, giving ideas of how you may provide a gift for those in need especially at this time of Christmas. ALWS have provided us with a catalogue and story book for Primary families. Have a look, with your children or family, and see if there is something you’d like to share with someone who might otherwise be without a gift. It’s an opportunity to be aware of those – who (like baby Jesus) live in circumstances far poorer than ours – and to share a little of God’s love with them. And from the reports coming back from ALWS, we know how these gifts make a difference and are received with great thanksgiving and joy..
St Paul when he comments on the Corinthian’s collection on behalf of the struggling Jerusalem church notes this: This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. (2 Cor 9:11).
Have a wonderful term and may our Lord grant you joy in receiving his wonderful gift of love and sharing this with others.
Have a great break! God bless.

Welcome back to our final term of the 2025 school year. In Term 4, our college looks to finalize the school year by acknowledging student achievement at our annual awards evenings. Year 12 students will be recognized at our “Year 12 Graduation and Recognition Evening” on Wednesday 15 October. This event provides the opportunity for Year 12s to showcase their talents and celebrate their amazing journey at Concordia Lutheran College.
Our second awards evening is the Year 6 – 11 Presentation Evening to be held at the Empire Theatre on Monday, 24 November. Students will be acknowledged for their academic, sporting, arts and educational achievements at this event. Students receiving an award will be notified in the coming weeks, along with family invitations to be provided at the end of October. We look forward to coming together as a community to celebrate our students and acknowledge the valuable contributions they make to our college.
Social Media Legislation Reforms:
Earlier this year, the Australian Government announced major reforms to protect young people online, with new legislation set to ban access to social media platforms for children under the age of 16 by the end of 2025. This means platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) will be required to implement stricter age verification and security measures to ensure compliance. While these changes place responsibility on technology providers, they also prompt important conversations about how schools and families can best support safe digital habits and wellbeing.
At Concordia Lutheran College, we view this reform as an opportunity to strengthen our digital citizenship programs, review our communication platforms, and work closely with parents to guide students in making safe and balanced choices online. Together, we aim to foster a community of capable, connected and caring digital citizens in a rapidly changing world,
To learn more about these reforms or how to provide support for your family at home, please refer to the correspondence provided below that provides further details for families. Our college will continue to update our community on these reforms and how we can support our young people with their technology use.

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through Term 4. The days seem to be moving faster than ever, and there’s a real sense of activity across all our campuses. The final term of the year always brings plenty of excitement, and this one is no exception.
To our Year 12 students – congratulations on reaching this milestone! You’ve shown maturity and humour throughout the year, and we’re proud of the example you’ve set for younger students. As you prepare for your external exams, remember to take a breath and trust the hard work you’ve put in. We wish you all the very best for what comes next.
Of course, one of the most anticipated events on the Concordia Lutheran College calendar is almost here – Oktoberfest! This year’s event will be held on Saturday, 26 October, kicking off at 4 pm and running into the evening. It’s a celebration of our College and the wider Toowoomba community with live music, delicious German food, German beer, specially crafted gin, fireworks, show rides, family-friendly fun and a great community atmosphere. The Walmsley Brothers will be performing along with an authentic German musician, so dress up in your favourite German theme and come along. Early bird tickets are available now on our website. Make sure you grab yours and enjoy a great afternoon and evening.
Over at Googa, the Year 9 students have had an incredible time so far. I stopped by recently and was greeted by children involved, connected and discovering independence. I know these early experiences help shape confident and creative life-long learners.
We’re also getting ready for our Head of College Tours at the Senior College on Tuesday, 28 October. These tours are a great opportunity for families to meet teachers, visit classrooms and see what life at Concordia is really like. These small tours will be taken by our Head of College, Mr Anton Prinsloo. We’ll be showcasing areas such as Agriculture, Performing Arts, Sport and Science. If you know families looking for a school for Year 7 to 12, please encourage them to book a place and come along. You will find more information and an easy way to book on our website.
As we move toward the end of the year, thank you to our parents and families for your ongoing support. Whether it’s volunteering, attending events, helping in classrooms or at home, or cheering at sporting events, your engagement helps make our community the special place it is.
Warm regards,
Ms Belinda Sanders

Christmas for the Bush
We are once again supporting Christmas for the Bush, a wonderful initiative coordinated by Care Outreach. This project sees care packages delivered to families and individuals in rural and remote areas who are doing it tough. Our Year 1 students will be leading this important service project, learning about compassion and community care. We encourage families to contribute items for donation, helping us bring hope and joy to others this Christmas. On Friday 7 November, we look forward to presenting our donations to the Care Outreach team in a special Chapel service lead by the Year 1 classes.

On Monday, we will be welcoming our new students for 2026 to the Junior College. This includes our incoming Prep students, who will get to spend time in their new classrooms, meet their teachers, and begin to feel a sense of belonging in our school community. Staff Apprecitation Day - Friday 31 October
Staff Appreciation Day – Friday 31 October
On Friday, 31 October, we will be celebrating Staff Appreciation Day — a special opportunity to recognise the wonderful work our staff do each and every day. We invite families to help their children write a card or letter for a staff member who has made a difference in their school journey. These can be handed in at Reception to be distributed on the day, or delivered personally by students on the day. Your kind words and messages of thanks mean so much and help make the day truly special.
JC Christmas for the Bush
It has become a tradition in our Junior College to support the amazing work of Care Outreach by contributing to their Christmas For The Bush program.
Care Outreach has been supporting outback families for over 30 years. Christmas for the Bush is an annual event, delivering Christmas hampers and gifts to struggling families in rural and remote regions. Farming families work incredibly hard. Loss of income, isolation and depression are some of the issues these families deal with on a daily basis. Care Outreach works to bring encouragement, support and hope to farming families in need.
In Term 4, the Junior College is again supporting Care Outreach with their Christmas for the Bush appeal. You can help by donating...
- Non-perishable food and Christmas treats
- Toys and family gifts
- Toiletries
- Pre-paid visa cards
Donation baskets have been placed in every classroom. 100% goes to our farmers! For specific needs, please visit Care Outreach and click on the 'Christmas for the Bush' tab.
Care Outreach are excited to have our support again this year, and we look forward to assisting their Christmas for the Bush campaign. Thank you for considering this worthwhile appeal.
Christmas for the Bush will conclude with a Junior College Chapel Service lead by our Year 1 students in the SSC Chapel on Friday 7 November at 9.30am. Everyone is invited to come along.

Stephen Street Campus
From the Director of Stephen Street Campus
Is it me or did we skip a few months this year? In preparing for the Year 12 Recognition Night this week, I caught myself in a trance of wonder at Empire Theatre as I pondered that it had been just shy of 5 months since our Musical Anastasia. Christmas decorations are already flooding the shops, and the weather seems to want to forget about spring and move straight to summer. 2025 is quickly riding into the sunset.
I do love this time of year though. There is a sense of positivity in terms of what has been accomplished as we see our Year 12s finishing their schooling journey, celebrate achievements through our awards evenings, and recognise the growth of our Year 9s as they return from their Googa adventure.
I also want to congratulate our Touch teams who competed last weekend at the All-Schools competition on the Gold Coast. As a relatively small high school, this was a big step forward in showcasing our talent, teamwork, and determination on a larger stage. Our students represented the college with pride and spirit, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts and sportsmanship.
To our Year 12s, as you step into this final chapter of your schooling journey, know that you carry with you not only the knowledge gained over the years but also the resilience, character, and determination that have shaped you into the young adults you are today. The weeks ahead may feel challenging, but they are also an opportunity to showcase your growth, your grit, and your goals. Believe in your preparation, lean on your support networks, and remember that your worth extends far beyond any exam result. We are proud of you, and we’re cheering you on every step of the way.
We look forward to celebrating this group one last time at their closing chapel service on Monday, 17 November.
We’re excited to welcome our incoming 2026 students to campus for Orientation Day on Monday, 20 October. This special day marks the beginning of a new chapter for our future Year 7s and those joining other cohorts, as they take their first steps into our vibrant college community. It’s a chance to explore the campus, meet teachers and peers, and begin building the connections that will support and enrich their journey ahead. We look forward to sharing the energy, warmth, and spirit of Stephen Street with each new student and their families as they prepare to join us next year.
Anticipation is building for our Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, 25 October! We have ramped things up once again to create an event which promises an afternoon of fun, food, and festivities for all ages. From delicious treats and lively entertainment, rides and activities, and fireworks - there’s something for everyone to enjoy. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing Parent Connect Committee for their dedication and hard work in organising this special event—we’re so grateful for the energy and care they bring to our community. We can’t wait to see you there!
Yours in faith,
Mr Jamie Pukallus
Director of Campus
