We have just spent a very memorable week saying farewell to our Year 12 cohort - the Class of 2019. It was delightful to see these young students finish their schooling at Concordia Lutheran College in such fine fashion.
The farewells, final Chapel service, Valedictory Parade and Dinner were meaningful and uplifting affairs – congratulations to our students, parents and staff for all that you have contributed to the Concordia community over many years.
Our prayers and best wishes are with these students as they join together for the Valedictory Service tonight (Friday evening, 15 November) and depart to enjoy a well-earned break prior to the issuing of results in December.

Concordia Lutheran College Christmas Carols
You are invited to attend our College Carols by Candlelight on Sunday 24 November held at Hume Street Campus. We ask that students come wearing their Christmas clothes or Christmas coloured clothes. We will have candles on sale on the night for $2.50.

Inter-House Swimming Carnival and Program
The Inter-House Swimming Carnival will be held on Tuesday 19 November at the Concordia Aquatic Centre.
- Students are asked to arrive by 8.30am.
- The pool car park will be closed on the day so parking is available on the CSI Oval which is accessed by the Stephen Street entrance.
- Students will need to be walked up to the sign in desk by parents. Please sign students in and out as they arrive or leave the swimming carnival.
It is estimated that the carnival will conclude at 2.45pm. There will be a bus coming back to HSC for children who are booked into OSHC and those participating in the Cricket after school program if it has been previously organised.

Student Council - Green Wall Installation
This week we saw another addition to the Student Council quad improvement project with the instalment of the vertical garden ‘green wall’. There are many advantages to having a green wall in a space: the aesthetic appeal inarguably being one of them. After countless hours of work by Grounds Staff Mr Barrie Knott and Mr Chris Medill, that we are most grateful for, together with some assistance from Year 12 students, the green wall sits proudly on the wall of B Block overlooking the quad. A beautiful addition to what is becoming a much-loved area of the College for students to enjoy both in breaks and even migrating during class for some learning outdoors.

Re-live the Magic!
Earlier this week, the moment that all musical students have been waiting finally arrived – the unveiling of the Bugsy Malone photo board! After combing through hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds!) of amazing photos from Bugsy, we finally managed to whittle it down to 46 of the photos we think truly represents what a fantastic production was Bugsy Malone.
We extend an invitation to all staff, parents and CLC students to visit the Arts Foyer in M Block over the next couple of weeks and have a look at the photo board, which now holds pride of place outside the Arts Staffroom. It is such a stunning reminder of how incredible our students are here at Concordia Lutheran College. Thank you all once again for all the hard work you put into Bugsy Malone to make it such a great success. Thank you also to Ms Judy Burgis and Mrs Annette Andrews for taking such beautiful photos, making it so hard for us to decide which ones to use!

Year 9 students - 2020 Student-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Student-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships that are commenced from Year 10 can contribute to the Queensland Certificate of Education. If your child is considering taking a vocational pathway in their Senior studies, please note that the application process takes a job interview approach. Any vacancies that the College is made aware of, are advertised in the Concordia Careers newsletter. Mrs Jo-Ann Tessmer will send all Year 9 students and families the current newsletter next week.

The Year 9 Rite Journey Coming Home celebration
Over 150 students, parents and staff, attended the Coming Home celebration on Tuesday 5 November at SSC. The purpose of the evening was to mark the conclusion of the Year 9 Rite Journey program and to celebrate the transition of the 36 young people into the Senior College.
The evening began with a community barbecue and then those attending gathered in the Chapel for a time of devotion and reflection on the year. Students were given the opportunity to share their experiences of the year-long program and many were able to articulate what they had learned about themselves and others and how they had grown as individuals. Many of these reflections included insights into the impact of the Googa Outdoor Education Experience from which they had recently returned. The evening was made even more special by the attendance of ten Googa staff.
Both Mrs Karen Rohde and I, as Year 9 Rite Journey teachers, have appreciated the positive manner in which our classes have approached the year and their willingness to embrace the challenges of the program. We are both very proud of them all and wish them the best for the future.

Volleyball
On Tuesday 5 November, the Girls Volleyball Team competed in the grand final playing for the gold medal! From winning gold last season and being moved up a division, the girls have achieved so much to have made it to this season’s final. This season was particularly hard for the girls as they haven’t had a full side all season with boarders away, state championships and Googa affecting the students' attendance.
The girls had to play Harristown SHS in the finals. Our girls played a strong game but unfortunately came out second best. The girls fought hard, losing the first set but winning the second taking it to a three-set decider, and while close, they did not grasp the gold.
The girls should be extremely proud of their efforts, they have overcome a lot of challenges to get there as well as developed many new skills and perfecting the fundamentals.
